We Remember

'We Remember Them'
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share, we remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
From Roland B Gittelsohn (Adapted)
I have to use someone else's words now, because I don't have my own words to share yet. I am so sad and I still don't believe this is true.

Hanna Update

Well, it appears that the storm may be tracking a bit north of us. However, they are still advising our area that we can still get some severe wind and rain and that it may change course again. They have not issued an evacuation and I don't really think that it will happen anymore. School will be in session tomorrow, but may be closed on Friday.

I am still hoping that we will either be closed on Friday or at least close early.

Here is a link to our local paper if anyone is interested in the stories they are running about Hanna - http://www.islandpacket.com/

If I hear anymore, I will let you all know. It was a beautiful day here - high 80s and relatively low humidity (for here, anyway). I think I will bring my camera and go on a field trip to the beach tomorrow to check things out!

Hanna

I'm getting a bit nervous about this storm. If it is a category 1 they will do a mandatory evac of the island. The area we are in would be mandatory if it hits a 3 (were right on the border of a 2 or 3). I'm just getting some things together just in case. They are set to make a call by Thursday morning if they will do an evacuation. I'm pretty sure they will call off school on Friday, but I haven't heard if I am supposed to go into work on Friday or not.

This storm, like others, could very well move back out to sea and miss us completely. That's what we will hope for! I'll keep you posted.

Walking Around Old Town Bluffton

I love all the old houses. I couldn't imagine the upkeep though!

Church of The Cross

I've posted pictures of this church before, but here it is again (the sign anyway!) Will was impressed by the age of this church. It is right next to the May and right down the street from the beautiful white house in the series below.
The bottom photo was taken from our car - right outside of the church - it started pouring just as we were walking back and getting ready to leave!

I Love This House!

They have been working on this house for a long time to bring it back to it's original beauty and I believe they are finished - I want a tour, I want a tour!! Not sure what they are going to be using it for, but I think it may be open to the public (I hope, I hope!)

Down By The May

Will and I got bored this afternoon so we took a drive down to the May River and walked around. It was nice and the rain waited to start coming down until we were just about ready to leave.

For Mom

I'm not sure when the last time Mom went to the ocean...so I took a quick video for you Mom so you can enjoy. It was quite windy so that's the noise you are hearing. Anyway, Happy Labor Day everyone!!!

The Clouds Were Beautiful, Too

Scenes on The Beach

Waves on the Beach

I noticed this woman on the beach - she just kind of stood in the water looking out over the ocean - for a long time. I didn't realize until I got home that she may be pregnant. At least from this picture she looks pregnant. When I saw that, I liked this picture even more because I have always thought that the ocean is like a womb. It seemed to have a comforting influence on this woman.

Oh, Come On...You Knew It Had To Happen!!!!

You can even see what's left of the bruise on my foot from when I sprained it on the Fourth of July!

Enjoy!!!

Waiting For Hanna

Two years ago at this time we were waiting for the arrival of my niece Hannah! This year, we are anticipating a possible arrival of Tropical Storm/maybe Hurricane Hanna. I hope not, but you can never be sure. Hilton Head has always been pretty lucky from what I've heard - we always seem to escape any direct impact.

I went over to the Island this morning and went to Mitchellville Beach (same place Emily & I went to) to take some pictures and see what was going on with the sea. Usually it is almost like a lake - very soft, little waves. Today it was much more like the Pacific. Believe it or not, these waves are kind of big for out here! It was pretty windy, very muggy and about 85 degrees. The water tempature has dropped from the last time Emily and I were here - it's now about 80-82 degrees.

I was impressed with watching the sea - just imagining what people in the gulf coast states were experiencing with Gusav - it's kind of scary.

About Me

My photo
I moved from California to South Carolina 2 1/2 years ago for my husband's job. We really like it here but miss the family and friends. My husband, Tom and I have a 8 1/2 year-old son named William.
